ONION

Onion (Allium cepa), a biennial herb from the Amaryllidaceae family grown for its edible onion. Onions were probably born in Southwest Asia, but are now grown all over the world, especially in temperate climates. Onions are low in nutrients but valuable for their taste and are widely used in cooking. They add flavor to dishes such as stews, roasts, soups and salads and are also served as cooked vegetables.

Description :

The common onion has one or more leafless flower stalks that reach 75–180 cm (2.5–6 ft) tall and end in round clusters of small greenish-white flowers. The concentric leaf bases of the growing plant swell to form an edible onion underground. Most commercially grown onions are grown from the tiny black seeds of plants grown directly in the field, but onions can also be grown from small onions or from transplants. Onions are very hardy and can withstand a wide range of growing conditions. Onions vary in size, shape, color, and spiciness, although warmer climates usually produce onions that are milder and sweeter in taste than other climates. The characteristic spiciness of onions is the result of the sulfur-rich essential oil they contain; The release of this oil when peeled or cut causes tears in the eyes.

Benefits :

Helps Oral Care :
Onions are often used to prevent tooth decay and oral infections. Chewing raw onions for 2 to 3 minutes has the potential to kill germs in the mouth and surrounding areas such as the throat and lips.

Increase Immunity :
Phytochemicals, found in significant amounts in onions, act as vitamin C stimulants in the body. Vitamin C strengthens your immune system by fighting toxins and foreign substances that can cause disease.

Reduce Risk Of Heart Disease :
Onion act as a potential anticoagulant, also known as a blood thinner, which prevents the formation of red blood cells. According to the report of dr. Barry C. Kendler of Manhattan College, the use of certain garlic and/or onion formulations has been positively associated with preventing and reducing the risk of atherosclerotic disease. These blocks and clots can lead to heart disease or cardiovascular disease.

Treat Diabetes :
Onions contain chromium, a relatively unusual mineral found naturally in foods. Chromium helps the body control blood sugar levels and ensures the slow and gradual release of glucose into the muscles and cells of the body. Onion juice, when given along with their diet for diabetics, has been found to help effectively control hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Therefore, consuming it can help modulate blood sugar levels.

Used As An Insect Repellent :
You can apply onion juice to relieve the pain of a bee sting. Fresh onion juice or paste can be used for topical application on insect and scorpion stings. The smell of onions can also keep insects away, which is why onions can be used both as an insect repellent and to treat bites.

Anti-Cancer Potential :

Onions are rich in active ingredients that successfully inhibit the development and spread of cancer cells. They contain significant amounts of quercetin, a very powerful antioxidant that has consistently been linked to preventing or reducing the spread of cancer. Vitamin C, which is found in onions, is also a powerful antioxidant that can reduce the presence and effects of free radicals in the body. Free radicals are chemical byproducts of cellular metabolism and can cause mutations into cancer cells in healthy cells. Any food that is high in antioxidants and neutralizes these free radicals can benefit everyone's health.

Relieve Earache :
A few drops of onion juice can be very helpful for acute earache. Tinnitus can be cured by placing onion juice through a piece of cotton.

Help Skin Care :
Onion juice mixed with honey or olive oil is believed to be the best way to treat acne symptoms or signs. It's also potentially anti-inflammatory, so its active ingredients can reduce redness and swelling, which are often associated with skin conditions like acne. Onions also help reduce pain and inflammation associated with conditions like gout and arthritis.

Cure Cough :

Consuming the same mixture of onion juice and honey can relieve symptoms of sore throat and cough.

Increase Sexual Arousal :
Onions are said to increase the desire for a healthy sex life. One tablespoon of onion juice, along with one tablespoon of ginger juice, three times a day can increase libido and sexual desire.

Treat Anemia :
Even the condition of anemia can be corrected by consuming onions along with pips and water, as this increases the body's levels of minerals, especially iron, which is an important part of the production of new red blood cells. Therefore, anemia, also known as iron deficiency, can be prevented by including onions in your diet.

Can Relieve Stomach Pain :
Onions have potential anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that can help relieve stomach upset and related gastric syndrome. This is because of the saponins it contains. These saponins have antispasmodic properties that help keep stomach pains at bay and keep your intestines clean and functioning smoothly.

Can Treat Urinary Tract Diseases :

For those who experience a burning sensation when urinating, onions can provide significant relief. People suffering from this condition should drink boiled water containing 6 to 7 grams of onions.

Can Relieve Asthma :

Medical studies show that these sulfur compounds stop the formation of biochemical chains that eventually lead to the condition of asthma. The sulfur content in onions can make it easier to dissolve phlegm in people with severe coughs. Fresh onion juice is recommended for patients who have lost consciousness due to its aroma and inhalation properties, which can cause immediate vitality and energy.
