SHERBET BERRY (PHALSA)

      Phalsa, also known as Indian sherbet berry with the botanical name Grewia asiatica, tops the list of exotic fruits in our country. The phalsa tree is native to India and grows and develops naturally in tropical Southeast Asian countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Thailand. It is a seasonal crop, the main fruiting period of which is summer. Fresh only for a short time after harvest, so they need to be eaten quickly. Description :      The phalsa tree, short and shrubby, has elongated, thin and pendulous branches, its leaves are broad, oval and deciduous, with yellow-orange flowers when ripe. Ripe phalanges have a dark purple to black outer skin with a lighter, fleshy interior. Similar in appearance and taste to grapes, these fruits are also stone fruits and are presented in branched grapes with a characteristic bittersweet, bittersweet taste.

SAPODILLA

      Sapodilla or sapota (chikoo) is a popular tropical winter fruit relished for its sweet flavour and indispensable medicinal properties and therapeutic benefits. It consists of a soft and easily digestible pulp, composed of natural sugars like mango, banana and jackfruit. It's nice to have the sweet scent of sapota with its juicy brown skin and grainy texture. Originating in Mexico, at Easter in Guatemala and Central America, settlers brought it to the Philippines, from where it traveled to the rest of Asia and then to India in the late 19th century.      In India, Karnataka is the largest producer of medlar, followed by Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. SALAK FRUIT (SNAKE FRUIT)

     The Salak, known scientifically as Salacca zalacca, is a fruit native to southern Sumatra and southwest Java, as well as other regions of the world, and belongs to the Arecaceae family. It is grown in other regions as a food crop and is believed to have been naturalized in Bali, Lombok, Timor, Malaysia, Maluku and Sulawesi.       The fruit that grows in clusters at the base of the palm is also known as the snake fruit because of its reddish-brown scaly skin, but inside is sweeter than honey, sour like pineapple, and incredibly juicy. It is slightly sour, which causes a tingling sensation on the tongue. RED BANANA

QUINCE

      Quince is a small or shrub of the Rosaceae family grown for its edible fruit. Quince is the only member of the genus Cydonia and is native to Iran, Turkey and possibly Greece and the Crimean Peninsula. The fruit is fragrant and astringent when eaten raw, but has an excellent taste and is often used to flavor boiled or cooked apples. When cooked, the flesh turns pink, giving it a nice color for jellies.   Description :      Quince plants are small whole leaf trees (small leaves growing on either side of the stem) that branch into short stems. It has large, single flowers, white or pink flowers resembling pears and apples, but with leaves and polynucleated ovaries. The fruits are golden-domed, round, flat or slightly pear-shaped.

     Raspberry, a fruit of the genus Rubus. Raspberry is considered to have developed in East Asia as an important economic crop not only in Northern Europe but also in the United States and Canada.
