Buds Most varieties grow along short thorns or buds at the end of the main branch. Each bud can contain 1 to 5 or even 2 to 3 flowers, which often appear as dense clusters of flowers when the tree is in full bloom. Each flower consists of a cup-shaped hollow structure called a hipantium, with a vase, petals, and flagella around the outer edge of which are wound acorns.
