LYCHEE

     Lychee (Litchi chinensis), also known as lychee or lychee, is an evergreen tree in the Sapindaceae family (Soapberry family) that grows for edible fruit. The fruit is native to Southeast Asia and has always been a Cantonese fruit. These fruits are usually eaten fresh, but can also be canned or dried. The flavor of fresh meat is savory and rich, and dried meat is very sour and sweet.
     The fruit grows naturally in much of Southeast Asia and commercially grown in China and India. The entry into the West occurred on arrival in Jamaica in 1775. The first berries are known to have been grown in Florida in 1916, where the tree became commercially important. This tree is less developed in the Mediterranean, South Africa and Hawaii.  

 

Description:
     The leaves are complex and contain 2-4 pairs of spiral oval leaflets 50-75 mm (2-3 inches) long. Small, inconspicuous flowers with terminal or very light clusters reach 30 cm in length. The fruits are oval to round, strawberry red in color, about 25 mm in diameter. The fragile outer layer is surrounded by translucent white fleshy wood and coarse grain.
     Trees attach to their parent plants as they reproduce by stacking seeds and winds, forming branches and forming roots. If you move the lychee plant to a permanent garden, it will be 7.5-5.5 meters away. In general, there should be enough water around the roots, but pruning is seldom necessary and does not require much attention. Trees form between 3 and 5 years of age.
